Politics & Government of South Asia

Throughout the South Asian region, there have been many issues that have been occurring with their politics and governments. For example, The Sri Lankan Government has been  arresting and deporting both refugees and asylum-seekers.  In order to remedy this issue the Sri Lankan government has put this movement to a halt as of August 15th. However, during this time 62 Pakistani and 3 Afghan asylum-seekers were arrested and detained, 40 of which have been deported. In order to resolve this problem the Sri Lankan Government has given the UNHCR assurance that all asylum-seekers and refugees detained as of June will be released immediately. However, how long is it until they resume arresting and detaining other Refugees and asylum-seekers?  A resolution to this problem, I feel, would be to   for the Sri Lankan government to work closely with the UNHCR in order to assess the refugees and asylum-seekers international protection needs. In addition to the situations in south Asia, the Indian Ocean has become one of the major drug trafficking routes for illegal drugs such as heroin. One of the major reasons for this is because the UNODC are unable to prosecute traffickers detected on the high seas and it still remains a major reason for the continuation of Drug trafficking. In order, resolve this issue I feel we should continue development of anti-drug trafficking laws.
